VINTAGE THROW PILLOWS NOW AVAILABLE!

I am happy to announce my line of custom throw pillows, all created from original, vintage, mid-century textiles is now available!

For the past few months I have been on the hunt for mid-century fabrics that showcase a different side of modernism; not just the typical Eames-style, playful, atomic-age version of the period (not matter how great these textiles can be), but instead a more Hollywood Regency, updated historic, artistic side.

I was on the hunt for textiles the Grand Dames of interior design like Dorothy Draper or Madeleine Castaing might use.  Textiles that are bold, painterly and elegant, and would feel right at home in a modern interior (or atop any of my restored antique or vintage seating pieces!)

To introduce these new products, all are discounted now through January 1st.  All below reflect pricing including down pillow insert, but are all available without insert upon request.  I do have some additional fabric if you are interested in additional pillows.

Contact me direct to arrange for payment and shipping; gift wrapping is also available for the holidays!

THANK YOU!

While I am thankful for lots of things in my personal life, today I wanted to share my thanks for my wonderful clients I have been privileged to work with this past year. I have been lucky enough not only to have (almost) more than enough work than I know what to do with, but also to have clients that have allowed me to develop projects I believe in creatively, and also clients that have been nothing but a joy to work with. My projects this year have become great collaborative undertakings, embodying my clients desires and visions, adding my expertise as needed, and ultimately producing a great end result.

As a small business owner, my clients are key to my business growth and ongoing development, the honing of my skills and overall design sense. So, to those of you that visit my blog- thank you!

And to everyone, Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for your ongoing support of my blog!

I'M BACK

I must apologize to all my loyal followers for being out of touch for a little while.  But you see, blogging is near the bottom of the 'to do' list when visiting the pleasant isles of Hawaii.  However, I did manage to get off the beach for a few minutes to take photos of one of my favorite hotels in Waikiki.  Alas, Waikiki is a bit slim in the great designer hotel catagory, something that the likes of Donald Trump and Ian Schrager is trying to fix (although there is still quite a ways to go to compete with the likes of South Beach or other beach hot spots).  Check out the Trump here and the Marriott Edition (with which Schrager has something to do, however I am still not sure about specifics) here.

While I would not be opposed to staying at either, my heart will always reside at the Moana Surfrider for a truely Old-World Colonial Hawaiian experience.

Isn't it just like being in any number of tropical British Colonies in the early 20th century?  I know I was born in the wrong era. I just LOVE the architectural detailing on the exterior:

Despite the fact it is set in the heart of Waikiki:

it is completely serene and secluded (with a nice mix of contemporary and classic- something I always appreciate as you all know) once you step inside.

And the deck out back (where they serve traditional English high tea) leaves little to be desired.  I just love the overscaled lanterns next to the small scale fans.

But alas, all vacations must end, and I am now back to the real world with regularly scheduled blogs back as well.  Thanks for sticking around!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I know, I know, I am several days behind with this post, but you know how the holidays are!  So, I will merely say thanks so much for following my blog this past year (and your patience when I am late).  I really do appreciate the support and all the comments.  Have a great holiday season, and I leave you with a few shots of my somewhat low-key decor this year.

We decided against a full-sized tree this year....much less hassle....and got a baby one instead, very well positioned next to the liquor:

And missing the lights that often occupy large trees, we instead turned the CB2 floor lamp into a light holder:

Our black&white dining area got some bling:

And the mantle, some red:

With the obligatory Norwegian Nisse (anyone who tells you they are Swedish is lying):

And I gave in to a 'latest craze' with the antlers on the coffee table (note: no animals were harmed during the creation of these cast antlers):

Of course we could not leave our guardian lion out of the fun:

I will be back to regularly scheduled posts next Thursday, Dec 30th!  Happy Holidays!

THANKSGIVING TIME IS HERE

Ok, Ok, so maybe last week's post was, in fact, a bit too disturbing.  But you have to admit it is fascinating stuff!  Let's change gears completely and talk about holiday decorating!  While I adamantly declared there would be no Halloween decorating tips on this blog, Thanksgiving is another thing.  Without children in the house, I find Halloween somewhat uninteresting.  However, Thanksgiving is worth decorating for.  Even though the day after Halloween is now considered the first day of the Christmas season....what happened to the day after Thanksgiving!?  I miss pumpkins and orange in the month of November.

So, below are a few photos I came up with for Thanksgiving table decorations.  All are fairly sedate and minimal.  It's me, what did you expect?  Small smiling pumpkin figurines and happy turkeys dressed up as Pilgrims?  Well, then you are definitely in the wrong place.

I think nature offers up plenty of good holiday decorations, enhanced with a mix of vintage candlesticks and well proportioned vases, nothing more is required.    So go forth and be inspired....

FYI- Christa Pirl Interiors now has an Etsy page filled with many a unique and interesting vase and candlestick... absolutely perfect for such holiday table dressings.  (I don't have enough tables to use it all...)  Please check us out! http://www.etsy.com/shop/christapirlinteriors

How perfect are simple glass containers filled with assortments of nature's bounty?  In a long line or clustered together, almonds, cranberries (you know you bought to many of these anyway), and wheat is all you need. (And you don't even need to purchase random plastic things to fill vases...)

Layers are always fun...

Sunflowers have great fall coloring, and paired with polished silver, the tones create a perfect juxtaposition. Add a natural runner and you have just created an eclectic mix of rustic and refined!

Those of you who might be more traditional can always go classic white...a weighty cut-glass bowl with matching candle holders is the perfect combo with white roses.

And because I love random collections of vintage candlesticks so much...just add fall colors...

Or glass in thanksgiving-y colors...random collections are always so great...

So there you go.  Something different and simple and with a beautifully set table and a big fat turkey (tofu or turkduckin can both be substituted here), I frankly don't think much more is needed.  Now I just have to pick one for my table... Happy Thanksgiving!
