FARMHOUSE CHIC IN THE MOUNTAINS

I am very excited to show off my latest completed project with Tall Pines Construction.  I was lucky enough to be able to work with the amazing owners of this property selecting all the interior hard finishes, lighting and plumbing, as well as all furniture, bedding and accessories.

The clients wanted something different from the standard mountain or mountain modern look that has become so prevalent in and around Park City.  As we developed the look, a clean, refined farmhouse look emerged, and we ran with it.  And it just worked.  The field and mountains surrounding the home set off the style perfectly.

It is always so rewarding to be involved in every aspect of a project, and also to see such a great finished product executed by an excellent, professional team of builders and craftsmen.

NEW PROJECT PHOTOS

I am happy to share photos of my latest home renovation completed with the RENU Crew, a fantastic renovation and real estate company in Salt Lake City.

I love renovating mid-century homes that had undergone some poorly thought-through changes sometime in the 70s or 80s.  It is very satisfying demo'ing avocado or mustard kitchen cabinets in order to make way for a cleaner, more true modernism.  Not to mention shag carpeting.

This is such a project, a house with great mid-century bones that needed some updating and restoring.  I think the results are fantastic, with a large open-plan living space clad with rich, bold materials set against clean white walls.

All the bathrooms were gutted as well; expanding them where possible and keeping all materials fresh and light with accents of rich charcoal and black to add some punch and depth.

FRANCOPHILE & NEOCLASSICAL HEAVEN

 

 

 

 

 

I subscribe to a number of design magazines, and every once in a while I see a project that just mesmerizes me.  It does not happen too often, and when it does, it usually involves one or both of these two things- 1. France 2. Neoclassicism.  The recent project in Architectural Digest by Jean-Louis Deniot has both. 

 

This wonderful renovation in Paris by an American couple speaks to me on so many levels.  Not only the basic fact that it is in my all-time favorite city, but also that it is decorated in the most elegant and refined neoclassical style, and that it is done completely in subtle shades of grays and taupes, with accents of blacks and whites (my favorite color palette), but it also seems the couple who purchased and renovated the property has acted out my own future (or so I hope).  After having loved Paris from afar for many years, the couple finally decided to retire to Paris, purchase this wonderful place, and enjoy their golden years in the City of Lights.  Of course there was a time I hoped to move to Paris in my youth and stay for the rest of my life (while I did move there in my youth, I was not quite blessed enough to stay longer than one year), now I would be overwhelmingly content with a week in Paris every year or so and the prospect of retiring to the grand old city one day in the future.  Sounds a whole lot better than a retirement home in Florida to me!  Anyway, I hope one day I may be able to create such a jewel of a space in such a jewel of a city!  Thanks for publishing this beauty, AD!

TRUMP STYLE

I was happy to see that Donald's daughter Ivanka did not inherit her father's sense of style.  While I love great French antiques, I cannot say I really appreciate the overall effect achieved by Donald and his designers in a Manhattan penthouse (not, in fact, a French chateau)...

I think Ivanka's style is much more NY penthouse appropriate and just slightly more sophisticated...
